You create an AI so powerful that you are afraid to release it...
Meet Anthropic's new model, Claude Mythos. However, a firsthand introduction is highly unlikely; the company has decided not to release it to the public, stating that the model is too dangerous for cybersecurity.
Rumor has it that Mythos can independently detect 20 to 30-year-old "zero-day" vulnerabilities that have been overlooked for decades in operating systems and critical software, turning them into chained attacks. This is such a massive risk that it could lead to the severe hacking of vital sector infrastructures, such as finance and banking. There are even whispers behind the scenes that central banks are holding emergency closed-door meetings because of this potential threat.
To keep this power under control, Anthropic has launched an initiative called Project Glasswing in collaboration with the world's giant tech and financial companies. The goal is to find and patch vulnerabilities in critical systems before malicious hackers can achieve this capability.
Although, if we look back a bit, similar doomsday scenarios and "this is too dangerous to release" rhetoric were also used for OpenAI's GPT-2 model back in the day. So, this whole climate of mystery and fear, far from transparency, could just be a cleverly orchestrated marketing tactic.
Despite everything, if even a fraction of what is said is true, the cyber threats of the near future could be much greater than we anticipate. We are entering an era where we will need to completely rewrite our defense paradigms.
