Build Your Dreams or Overcome Bureaucracy? An Innovation Dilemma from Shanghai to Europe ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿš€

I recently watched a comprehensive documentary about the city of Shanghai. The city is well on its way to becoming a true "smart city." Autonomous taxis, drone deliveries, robots integrated into daily life... and these are just the visible faces of technology. Behind this massive ecosystem are giants like Alibaba and BYD. A slogan on the wall of the BYD factory particularly caught my attention. This short sentence perfectly encapsulates the city's and the company's work culture:

"Build Your Dreams."

This represents an engineering power of over 100,000 employees in a single company, where innovation doesn't wait to be perfected in a lab but is deployed directly into the field, focusing on speed and scale.

Watching this, as someone living in Europe, I couldn't help but compare it to our own geography. If we had to write a sentence on a factory wall that summarized Europeโ€™s current business and tech culture, what would it be? The clearest sentence that came to my mind was:

"Learn to overcome bureaucracy before you build your dreams." ๐Ÿงฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

In its most prosperous times, Europe constantly created new layers of bureaucracy to generate more employment and eliminate every possible risk. Every new rule meant new departments, new boards, and new jobs to manage those processes. Today, the result is a massive puzzle that even those who built it cannot solve. While China and the US are building the future of hardware and software by asking "How can we build faster?", in Europe, the permits, regulatory compliance, and endless risk analyses required to bring an idea to life often consume more energy and budget than the project itself.

Of course, this strict regulatory structure creates a safe standard (regarding data privacy, consumer rights, etc.). But is this bureaucratic maze slowing us down irreversibly in the innovation race? Where do we stand on that thin line between creating a safe space and being sidelined from the game?

I hope for a business culture where we set out to build dreams and don't get lost at the bureaucracy tables.
